Dr. Harvey Karp '72 is a world renowned child development expert and America’s most read pediatrician.

Creator of the bestselling DVDs and books, The Happiest Baby on the Block and The Happiest Toddler on the Block, Dr. Karp's work has literally revolutionized our understanding of the needs of young children. Over the past 30 years, he has taught thousands of parents, from working moms to superstars like Madonna and Michelle Pfeiffer, his secrets for making children happy.

Dr. Karp’s work is taught in hundreds of hospitals, clinics and military bases across the US and has been showcased on television shows Good Morning America, Dr. Phil, Inside Edition, The Doctors, The View, Larry King Live and CBS News. His work has also been featured by the New York Times, Associated Press, Time, Newsweek and People magazines.

There are now over 2,000 Happiest Baby educators teaching Dr. Karp’s baby calming and sleep techniques at university hospitals, teen clinics, child abuse prevention programs, military bases, etc. across the country.
He is also an authority on children’s environmental health and breastfeeding.

Dr. Karp is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at UCLA. He completed his MD studies at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, his residency training at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, and a joint fellowship in Ambulatory Pediatrics and Child Development at UCLA. Following that he was a practicing pediatrician in Los Angeles for over 25 years.

In September 2009, Dr. Karp came back to Buffalo and gave a presentation to the UB campus community.  On October 1, 2009, Dr. Karp was awarded the College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Alumnus Award.
