Dr. Duane Champion is a research geologist since 1977 with the Volcano Hazards Program of the U.S. Geological Survey, in Menlo Park, California. Duane received his B.A. (1971) and his M.A. (1973) from the University of Buffalo, and his PhD from the California Institute of Technology in 1980. He lives in Menlo Park with his wife, Erin, and has two sons. His research interests are the nature and history of the Earth’s magnetic field, and its use in deducing the age and duration of episodic activity at volcanic areas located within the United States. All in all, a great excuse to spend time at numerous scenic national parks and monuments, as well as some little “hole-in-the-wall” sorts of places.
